I’m doing a small research presentation for my Women And Art class on women and museums.
I’ve done some research on women’s involvement in the history of museums, but what I also want is some more information on women museum professionals, especially in comparison to male museum professionals.
What inequalities still exist and/or are prevalent today? Does any woman have any significant experiences they’d like to tell me about? Over 75% (probably even more) of the students in my Museum Studies program are female, but the reverse is true for the number of male professionals in charge of the museums in town. Do you think there are any male dominated positions? Are women often relegated to certain positions? Does this change with respect to the topic the museum covers (art, history, science, etc.)?
I would love just to have a pile of women’s experiences I could consider.
Any sources anyone can direct me to too would be great, for the history of museums and women still as well :)
